The Supermarine Spitfire was the most famous British fighter in history of all World War Two aircraft. The Supermarine Spitfire was a British single-seat fighter, used by the Royal Air Force and many other Allied countries during the Second World War. The aircraft flew on official tests in March 1936.  The operational history of the Spitfire with the RAF started with the first Mk Is, which entered service with 19 Squadron on 4 August 1938. The Spitfire achieved legendary status during the Battle of Britain. The type saw combat in all theaters of World War II and flew with numerous air forces including the United States Air Force.
