DROUGHT MONITORING CENTRE FOR THE GREATER HORN OF AFRICA(GHA) - Kenya
The Drought Monitoring Centres (DMCs) for Eastern and Southern Africa are charged with the responsibility of monitoring of drought in a timely manner with respect to its intensity, geographical extent, duration and impact upon agricultural production and to give early warning for the formulation of appropriate strategies to combat its adverse effects. The DMCs are therefore climate diagnostic centers from where information relating to drought and weather patterns is readily available to all interested users within and outside the Eastern and Southern African region: Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda .

During its short span of existence, the Society has undertaken its duties with dedication. The objectives of the Society include the advancement of meteorology in Kenya. In this respect, the role of the KMS is, therefore, to enhance the services of the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) in the promotion of meteorology.
